Common Fumigation Questions Answered Part Two
When pests invade, there are many options for eradication. Fumigation is one of the most effective forms of pest control. In a sense, it is like flipping the “reset” switch. It is a powerful weapon to use against pests and you might say that fumigation is “in tents.” In this blog, we take a look at some of the most common questions people have about fumigation.
(Also see our last blog for more answers to your fumigation questions.)
Is fumigation dangerous?
Absolutely. Fumigation is used for one reason – because it is poisonous. It is used to suffocate or poison pests throughout the entire structure. Before fumigation begins, you must remove all living things, including plants, pets, and people. You should also remove all consumables such as food, medicine, and hygiene items.
Why do we have to remove our food?
Fumigants are powerful gasses that are dangerous even to humans, and no chances should be taken. Food that is not in cans must be removed from the home, or double-bagged in the provided bags for protection.
Do I need to wash my dishes and clothes after fumigation?
No. The fumigants do not leave a residue, so they do not need to be washed off after the treatment. However, in our experience, many customers prefer to wash their dishes for peace of mind.
Are leftover fumigants dangerous?
No. There are no leftover fumigants. After the tent is removed, the gases used in fumigation will dissipate quickly. No harmful gases will remain in the structure.
Why is a tent used during fumigation?
Fumigants are dangerous to humans. A building is sealed, often with a large tent, to keep dangerous fumigants where they are supposed to be.
Are buildings the only things that can be fumigated?
No. This pest control option can be as big or as small as it needs to me. From large warehouses, to a single piece of furniture, anything can be tented.
Will my home be safe during fumigation?
Yes. We take exceptional measures to make sure your home and belongings stay safe during fumigation. We will consult with you to make sure you understand your responsibilities to prepare your home for fumigation and will be available for any questions you may have. The gases we use are not only EPA approved, but they are non-corrosive, non-staining, and non-flammable. When you return home, you’ll find it just as it was when you left it.
